Fighting off a cold? Trying to recover from a bout of sickness? This wellness shot recipe is your one-stop shop for boosting immunity and staying healthy.

We first discovered this recipe during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. We were riding to the airport when our uber driver explained her tip for staying well– this wellness shot recipe. She took it every morning along with her mother and daughter. She swore by the recipe for keeping her and her family healthy and safe.

Although we made a few tweaks to her recipe (like adding local honey,) this natural Vitamin C punch has stayed around as a staple in our house for recovering from all types of sickness. Plus, this recipe is both preventative and restorative, so it’s a great option when you’ve been exposed to sickness, or when you’re recovering from it yourself.

Instructions

To make this wellness shot, you’ll want to use a juicer. However, if you don’t have a juicer, you can also use a blender or food processor.

Step 1 – Remove Skin from Citrus

Start by de-skinning your oranges and lemons. You’ll form a tear in the skin, and then carefully peel the skin away until all that remains is the bare fruit.

Step 2 – Peel Ginger and Turmeric

Use a knife to skin the ginger and turmeric until only the colorful, nutritious roots remain. Some people prefer to use a metal spoon for peeling ginger–this is completely fine, so long as you get rid of the outer layer.

Step 3 – Chop Ingredients

Next, you’ll chop up all of your fruit, ginger, and turmeric, until it’s the right size to be juiced. For my juicer, I need my pieces to be 2 inches round or less, so that they fit through my juicer.

Step 4 – Juice Ingredients

If you have a juicer, simply combine these ingredients until well blended. Add the honey in to taste. If you don’t have a juicer, you can use a blender or food processor for this recipe.

Step 5 – Enjoy Daily

Bon appétit! Enjoy this healthy, freshly-squeezed wonder shot all throughout cold and flu season. Your immune system will thank you! Store in airtight jars in the refrigerator for 3–5 days.
